A sentence is a group of words that make complete sense.
Example:
She is a beautiful girl.

Types of sentences:
Sentences can be of three kinds- Simple, Compound and Complex.
A. A sentence that has only one subject and one predicate is called a Simple Sentence. A predicate is a clause or part of a sentence containing a verb and stating something about the subject(e.g. 'went school' in 'Tony went school').
Examples:
His courage won him acclaim.
The sun was shining brightly.
Examples:

B. A sentence with two or more co-ordinated independent clauses, but notdependent/subordinate clauses( Read more about Clauses here), often joined by a conjunction or some punctuation is called a Compound Sentence.
Examples:
The problem was complicated, but he managed to find a solution.
The moon was bright and we could see our way.
Examples:

C. A sentence that contains one main clause or independent clause and at least one subordinate or dependent clause is called a Complex sentence.
Examples:
Although I am exhausted, I want to watch the television.
I went to the hospital because Jim was unwell.
